The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) issues electronic benefits that can be used like cash to purchase food. SNAP helps low-income working people, senior citizens, the disabled and others feed their families. Eligibility and benefit levels are based on household size, income and other factors.

Benefits

SNAP benefits can help you put healthy food on the table.

SNAP monthly benefits can be used to purchase food at authorized retail food stores.

SNAP benefits are provided through an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, similar to a bank debit card or credit card. If you are eligible, an EBT account is set up for you, and every month your benefits will be deposited right into your account.

SNAP helps families buy nutritious food with an electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card that is like a debit card. SNAP benefits can be used at stores across the country and at some farmer's markets. SNAP can help you and your family eat right when money is tight. To be eligible, households must meet income tests. Combat pay, Hostile Fire pay, and Imminent Danger Pay are not counted as income for SNAP. All other pay and allowances are counted as income.

We are continually adding to our list of soup kitchens, food pantries and food banks available in America and its US territories. Many people go hungry every day. Without your local soup kitchen, food bank and food pantry people would literally starve to death. You can help by volunteering at your local soup kitchen, food bank or food pantry. Many local non-profit organizations are desperate for funds and volunteers so please contact them and help if you can.

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program

The Family Independence Administration also provides access to food stamps to low-income families and individuals. The food stamp program is known as SNAP, which stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. For the veteran in a shelter, it is imperative to remain healthy.

    USING THE EBT CARD

New York recipients may access their cash and SNAP benefits at participating EBT locations anywhere within New York State and nationwide. Cash benefits may also be accessed at participating ATM and authorized retail store locations. Some smaller grocery stores that accept EBT for cold food, including cold sandwiches, will sell unsold hot food at the end of the day; so be sure to ask. Grocery store Morton Williams allows hot food with EBT anytime:
